Eureka! The queen-sized queen comes to Houston
At press time, three episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 have aired. South Beach is proud to host the queens from Season 9. Let’s play a game and see what you remember about some of the other queens that have graced the South Beach stage. Ask yourself, “What do the following queens have in common?”
Season 1’s Victoria “Porkchop” Parker
Season 2’s Mystique Summers Madison
Season 3’s Mimi Imfurst (also appeared on All Stars 1), Stacy Layne Matthews and Delta Work
Season 4’s Madame LaQueer, Jiggly Caliente and Latrice Royale (top four finish, along with being voted Miss Congeniality by the fans, and appeared on All Stars 1)
Season 5’s Penny Tration and Roxxxy Andrews (season runner up, along with fourth place finish on All Stars 2)
Season 6’s Darienne Lake (top 4 finish)
Season 7’s Jaidynn Diore Fierce, Ginger Minj (season runner up, along with appearing in All Stars 2) and Mrs. Kasha Davis
Season 8’s Kim Chi (season runner up)
RuPaul’s Drag Race prides itself on the fact that it showcases queens of all shapes, sizes and colors of the rainbow, and the queens named above just so happen to be the plus size queens who have appeared so far on Seasons 1 through 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
And on Saturday night, April 22, South Beach welcomes the plus-size queen from Season 9, Eureka O’Hara, most commonly referred to as simply Eureka.
Born David Huggard, Eureka is from Johnson City, Tennessee, and is 26 years young. This was her fourth time to audition for the show.
If you haven’t had a chance to look at the “meet the queens” videos online, they are a great way to “meet” the queens for the first time. According to Eureka’s video, her drag name is Eureka, “like the vacuum cleaner,” and she is “big, ready to jig, and ready to win this gig!”Eureka describes her drag aesthetic as “the Kool-Aid Man meets Eureka’s Castle meets Hobby Lobby meets the Grand Duchess meets Mary, Queen of Scots meets fabulousness!” Whew, that’s a mouthful!
Also, if you’ve watched any of the “Untucked” episodes on YouTube, you also must know that Eureka never really runs out of things to say. This has caused a bit of drama on the episodes with some of the other queens who might be having a little bit harder of a time getting their message across to the viewers. Stay tuned!
On Saturday night, April 22, there will be one big show with an encore after midnight, followed by an autograph and photo shoot party. Come have your photo taken with the amazing Eureka from Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race!
