11)All Stars 2 winner Alaska

The next RuPaul’s Drag Race queen to grace us with their presence on the South Beachstage is none other than the winner of Season 8, Bob The Drag Queen, who is now America’s next drag superstar!
Bob appeared at South Beach earlier this year on June 25 for South Beach’s Pride Parade After Party. If you had the opportunity to see Bob’s performance then, you know how amazing it was. If you didn’t, then even more reason to see Bob in his return visit on Saturday, December 17.
Bob has a huge heart, and is the true definition of royalty. Just as an example, he donated all of his tips for the month of June (including what he collected from his South Beach fans back in June) to the popular GoFundMe campaign that was set up for the Pulse Orlando survivors.
South Beach is located at 810 Pacific St. Houston, TX 77006. For more information, visit www.sobehouston.com or call 713-521-0107.

A conversation with Bob The Drag Queen

MONTROSE STAR had the amazing opportunity to interview Bob by phone earlier this year, soon after his Season 8 victory.

MONTROSE STAR: First of all, conDRAGulations on winning the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar for Season 8! Houston loves you!! I am sure you have never gotten this question before, so here goes: How has winning RuPaul’s Drag Race changed your life?
Bob The Drag Queen: Thanks for the conDRAGulations! I’ve been in a whirlwind. I’ve been out of town so much. This is actually the first time that I’ve been home since the win. It really hasn’t registered yet. What has increased is interviews. I just brushed my teeth, and you probably didn’t even realize it. I could be running errands or putting on makeup while we’re talking. Just being on the show itself was a major life change.

MS: The Miss America pageant has the contestants from each state declare their “ platform” . Sort of cute, huh? Maybe RuPaul should do that next year—can you discuss it with him over Tic Tacs next time you have lunch? What is Bob The Drag Queen’s “ platform” ?
BTDQ: I was looking forward to a Tic Tac lunch with RuPaul but never got it. In previous seasons, RuPaul also used to slap the top four. It was a staged slap, but still. I regret not having RuPaul slap me on TV. In Season 6, the finalists even got to slap RuPaul in the final challenge!
My platform is to give back to the community, entertain the children and make them laugh.

MS: We all know that, as the winner of Season 8, you received a huge chunk of change. Please share with us one of the most memorable things you did or plan to do with your winnings.
BTDQ: Probably what I’m most proud of is that I donated $3,000 to the Lost-N-Found youth shelter for homeless LGBTQ youth in Atlanta, Georgia. Also, I donated $1,800 to the Pride Foundation in Panama City, Florida. I also buy a lot of Sour Patch Kids candy when I travel, and I buy a hoodie in just about every airport I’m at.

MS: You have to be one of the busiest queens in the world. Is there anywhere you have not traveled to that you want to go, and why?
BTDQ: I want to do drag in some places where they really need it—maybe in a place like Senegal, where there is not much queer representation. In fact, it might even be illegal to be queer there. I want the queers in a place like that to feel free while some drag queen performs for them!

MS: What do you see yourself doing five years from now? How about 10?
BTDQ: In five years, I will be 35 years old, and in 10 years, I will be 40. Of course, I will always be younger than Bianca ever will be. I think Bianca Del Rio was born at the age of 50, though I can’t prove it! I hope to be touring with my stand-up comedy in fiveyears. In 10 years, I hope to have my own TV series—maybe a sketch comedy series.

MS: Last but not least, please describe yourself in only three words. I know, LOGO has already done this, but maybe the answer changes over time!
BTDQ: Gorgeous, talented and humble. Clearly hilarious. (We laughed about the fact that he used more than three words, but he said that best describes him!)

Stay tuned for the next edition of the MONTROSE STAR for many more upcoming RuPaul’s Drag Race events.
